beautifully designed, crafted and installed fitted furniture
Attention To Detail
We take the design and detailing of your bespoke furniture very seriously and as Charles Eames the famous American Furniture Designer said "The details are not the details. They make the design".
Detailing should not be left to chance and we continually strive to include harmonious and well considered detailing. Edges of materials are very important, as are junctions between materials and surfaces. Getting it right can add visual sophistication and on a practical note reduce wear and tear or make it easier to maintain. Good looking, well proportioned and beautifully made fitted furniture will add value to your property. Conversely, ill-considered and poorly made fitted furniture can reduce the value of your property when negotiating a sale. The images below show a few furniture and joinery details that we have designed and made.
Walnut cupboard detail.
The image above shows the inside of a cupboard on a media unit made in walnut veneer. The useable space has been maximised by designing and making the insides to fit around existing pipework in the house.

Shelving and door detail.
The inside should look as good as the outside. Here the height adjustable walnut veneer shelf has a deep down-stand to increase the shelf strength, whilst simultaneously covering the shelf pins. The concealed cabinet hinge is the same quality and fitted to the same level as high end freestanding furniture.
High gloss panel detail.
High gloss is very fashionable but if damaged it is not easy to repair, our solution to these high gloss doors was to produce them as removable panels and make a feature of the grid style detailing. If damaged or the colour is changed the panels can simply be removed and resprayed at a professional spray shop then reinstalled.
Oak drawer detail.
The solid oak drawers are part of a home study that we were commissioned to design and make. They have a letter box style handle and to make them feel more tactile we scooped out the back edge of the drawers so it is softer to the touch.
Large bookcase detail.
The image shows a handmade decorative cornice and the panelled side. To ensure that the the bookcase has a fully fitted look, we inserted a flush fillet piece that's scribed to the wall and notched around the picture rail. The picture rail was left intact, future proofing our clients options in case they wanted to take the bookcase with them whilst leaving the period property details intact.
Cedenza detail.
Occasionally we are asked to design and make freestanding furniture for specific locations. The contemporary oak credenza was designed for a hallway and has solid oak edges angled inwards with a step in the bottom of the door to echo the handle detail.
Walnut leg detail.
This free standing coffee table has the solid walnut top set flush with the walnut legs. To add strength and visual interest the walnut leg uses a bridal joint which highlights the end grain on the two faces.
Fireplace detail.
This visually simple fireplace made from fire rated man made boards has mitred edges between the vertical surfaces. This prevents shrinkage between the two faces and eliminates the paint from cracking. The top surface and surround protrude slightly to add a subtle visual detail.

Shoe Storage detail.
The shoe storage shown is inside a walnut fitted wardrobe. It was designed to maximise the available space and for the shelves to be angled when pulled out thereby making it easier to choose the shoes.
Oak venner to solid oak detail.
The image shows an oak veneer surface meeting a solid oak edging. The point of contact has a rebated shadow detail. This allows for slight movement between the two surfaces caused by the changing humidity within a room.
Pergola detail.
This Iroko pergola has a stainless steel bar connecting the solid iroko. The end of the s/s bar is turned into a disc to add strength and visual detail.
"On behalf of a client in London N6, I recently commissioned Carpenter & Carpenter to design, construct and install a set of sliding wardrobes for the client's dressing room. I invited quotes from a number of companies, including specialist wardrobe manufacturers. We chose Carpenter & Carpenter as their design was genuinely bespoke and tailored to the space rather than merely customised from standard templates. Given this, the quote from C&C was very competitive. Working with Andrew on the design was a pleasure. He was thorough and had many good ideas in relation to the design. He was also very willing to find ways to ensure the clients got exactly what they wanted. I and the clients are very pleased with the end result. I highly recommend Carpenter & Carpenter for your carpentry and joinery requirements". - Egon Walesch Interiors & Flowers
